Pyromation "One of the Best Places to Work in Indiana"

For Immediate Release:  May 13, 2013

(Fort Wayne, IN) – Fort Wayne-based Pyromation, Inc. was recognized by the state’s Chamber of Commerce as one of the 2013 “Best Places to Work in Indiana”.  Company representatives, including President Pete Wilson, attended the award ceremony and dinner held at the JW Marriott in downtown Indianapolis on May 2, 2013.  Wilson accepted the award for Pyromation, which was the highest ranked “Medium” size business from Fort Wayne.  “Medium” sized businesses were classified as those with 75-249 U.S. employees.  Pyromation was also one of the few manufacturing operations recognized in 2013.

Each year the Indiana Chamber recognizes companies throughout the state “that have set the standard for workplace excellence”.  This is the eighth year the Best Places to Work program has recognized in-state companies.  In 2013, a record 100 companies were honored as part of the “Best Places to Work in Indiana” rankings.  For the first time, winners were selected in four categories according to number of employees.  Pyromation ranked 19th among the 28 companies that made the list in the “Medium” group.

All companies that participate in the Best Places to Work program receive an in-depth evaluation identifying strengths and weaknesses according to their employees.  The top companies in the state are determined through employer reports and comprehensive employee surveys. Out-of-state parent companies were eligible to participate if at least 15 full-time employees were in Indiana. The Best Companies Group, which handled the selection process, oversees similar programs in 21 other states.

Pyromation receives the award in a year in which it is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the application of Lean principles, which have improved enterprise efficiency and also enhanced Team Member involvement.  As part of Lean, the company developed idea programs that encouraged the company’s Team Members to provide over 23,000 ideas that have improved operating efficiencies and reduced waste over the past decade.  Some of the gains realized by Pyromation’s success are distributed through a Team Member bonus program.

Lean’s influence aided in Pyromation’s development of one-piece work flow cells, creating a cleaner and more engaging environment.  In addition, the company has a creative training program for skills development, which has allowed many to take advantage of opportunities for growth within Pyromation.

Investment in facilities, such as the recently expanded and remodeled café-style lunchroom, has also made Pyromation an enjoyable place to work.  This and Team Member events, such as Tincaps games, Halloween dress up day, or involvement in community programs, such as the Red Cross blood drive, make Pyromation feel like family.

“We have worked hard to develop programs and create an environment that promotes individual and team growth.” said Pete Wilson.  “At the same time, we want our Team Members to enjoy coming to work and being a part of our family.  We have seen the positive results of those efforts through low employee turnover and tremendous Team Member involvement in our operations and activities.”

This is the first year that Pyromation applied for the Best Places to Work in Indiana program.
